As often happens in sobriety, after a bad day, the next day is always worth getting up for. Today I crafted an adorable little surprise for my grown-up kids. It’s “Adopt A Ghost”! 👻 I KNOW! It’s totes adorbs! It’s my latest upcycling craft that uses a Maple syrup jar and some chunky yarn from a blanket that my Weimaraner destroyed. It’s going in the mail tomorrow to each of my kids and their partner.
I get to do these fun things for my kids because I'm sober. I've always been a good mom—don't worry I asked them both to make sure! But as a sober mom, I'm so much more present. I enjoy my family so much more and they enjoy me more.
My episode today was tough to talk through. I share some experiences that I had as a drunk mom that in early sobriety I was very regretful of. In sobriety I learn not to regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it—today when I revisited these disheartening experiences out loud, it only strengthened my resolve to stay sober.
I must transform my regrets into gratitude for what has brought me to where I am today.
