Today I heard someone say, “Without doubt, there is no need for faith.” It struck me that the most joyous moments of my life resulted from hard work and sometimes incredible pain. My struggle is letting go of self-will and figuring out where to look for guidance. Sometimes it’s in other people. Other times those people simply play the essential role of shifting my focus from self-will back to my higher power.
With so much information coming in from all directions, how do we know where to turn for guidance? My mind can feel chaotic with self-talk, advice from others, and learning how to pray and meditate all competing for my attention. Drinking was how I used to silence the noise. And, while the volume is significantly lower in sobriety, I want the guidance from prayer and meditation to be the loudest.
The work is in adjusting the volume between internal noise, external advice, and spiritual connection.
