Today, on my podcast published internationally (yeah, that’s right!), I talk about the serenity prayer and how when I first started repeating it in early sobriety I had a very shallow understanding of what it was saying. Over time, as I listened to other people in meetings share about how they apply the serenity prayer in their lives, I've learned to pause and make thoughtful decisions about what I can and cannot change.
I share about a tacky glass sculpture that I admired from the view of my toilet in early sobriety yet continued to drink. That sculpture had the serenity prayer on it. Despite reciting it over and over again, I didn't understand that my drinking was something that I could change. I didn't have the courage yet.
I feel very fortunate that I have had the opportunity to work the steps in my sobriety program and been gift with serenity as a result. I've been gifted with courage. And by now applying the serenity prayer in my life every day I have been gifted wisdom. I always thought during my years of active alcoholism that serenity, courage, and even wisdom could be found at the bottom of my box of Vella Chardonnay.
Listen to today’s episode. And, if you feel like you don't have the time, listen on triple speed! However, if you feel like you don't have the time, it's likely this episode will resonate even deeper with you.
