In this episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I share my recent experience visiting a stroke specialist in Washington, DC. The specialist provided significant insights into my stroke recovery, including the possibility that I might have had a second stroke last year as we'd suspected. I discuss her recommendations, including continuing my daily vestibular exercises and the best self-care to prevent another stroke, such as maintaining a Mediterranean diet, starting back on a low dose of cholesterol medication, and staying physically active the best I can with the symptoms I struggle with.
Beyond the medical update, I share the emotional aftermath of such appointments—the feelings of hopelessness and depression that typically follow and why. I reflect on how engaging in hobbies and crafts helps me cope and the importance of holding onto hope, even in the most challenging times. I share a powerful reminder from my morning meeting: making good use of your sufferings to help others gives purpose to your pain.
Join me as I explore how to find hope and purpose in the midst of health challenges and how to use our experiences to support and uplift others in any recovery community.
