In today's episode, I reflect on something that's familiar to those in the AA community, but also incredibly relevant to anyone on a journey of healing and recovery, including my own path after a stroke.
The AA daily reflection today speaks of defeat as a starting point for liberation and strength. It's a paradox that keeps appearing in my life. It happened at the depth of my disease of alcoholism and in my stroke recovery journey. The idea that only through utter defeat are we able to find our way to a new life - it's
something I continue to experience in my life. I’ve always said that I learn things the hard way. I don’t seem to learn however that I don’t have to keep digging a hole before I build a sandcastle.
Surrender isn't giving up. It's giving in to a new way of life, one that's built not on the shaky ground of self-reliance but on the firm bedrock of acceptance, support, and community. With
every act of surrender, we’re building a life of purpose, peace, and freedom from constant internal battles.
