Description

In today's episode, I talk about the intersection of mental unwellness and alcoholism. I explore the importance of humility and an open mind in recovery, and how these qualities can lead us to into faith and sanity.

I recently heard someone say, "You can be too smart for the program, but you can’t be too stupid." At first, I chuckled, but then I thought, "Yeah, that’s true." Many come into recovery thinking they're too smart for it, trying to outthink alcoholism. This episode unpacks what it means to let go of intellectual pride and practice the principles of recovery.

I discuss how intellectuals can struggle with the concept of faith and the principles of recovery, overanalyzing everything and trying to rationalize their disease. Recovery demands humility and an open mind.

I also talk about our insanity—how we create false narratives to justify our behavior and the behavior of others, especially those we love. Recognizing these patterns and seeking help outside of ourselves is a step toward breaking free from these unhealthy thought cycles.
