Description

For today’s episode, we open our arms and our airwaves to the newcomers in any recovery community. Whether it’s your first listen or you're a returning lifetime listener, today we travel back to the beginning and remember what it was like to be a newcomer in a recovery community.

Personally, I've experienced the power of the open-door policy firsthand over my years of sobriety and now as I enter new rooms of recovery fellowships. I spent a day immersed in the solidarity of various support groups—from vestibular disorder to stroke recovery, and of course began my day with a sobriety meeting. It was a fulfilling day and a reminder that the newcomer is the most important person in the room, as I witnessed an amazing response by these fellowships to the newcomers in the rooms.

The power of 'we' in recovery groups is transformative for all members. When you arrive in any recovery room, our lives become richer because of your presence. Your story and vulnerability strengthens the bond of the community, and we carry you forward on the path of recovery together.

Not everyone who finds their way to recovery is ready to stay. Some haven't hit their bottom and may step back out into the world on their own. But the beauty of recovery fellowships is that you're always welcomed back.

In stroke recovery and vestibular therapy, like in sobriety, we advocate for sharing our collective knowledge to heal and thrive. That's why I’ll be including information about these support groups in the episode description—because we're fighting the good fight together.

For the newcomers to Recovery Daily Podcast, I’ve applied the same multi-step approach to my own stroke recovery journey and vestibular therapy as I do in sobriety, and it’s an insight I’m eager to share with you all. Embracing humility, practicing willingness to accept the things I cannot change, and seeking the wisdom to distinguish what I can change are the cornerstones of my recovery life.

To all newcomers and lifetime listeners, your courage to step into any recovery room is a monumental step. Welcome and please keep coming back!
