Description

In early sobriety, I was sitting in a periodontist chair being offered laughing gas, and I got way too excited. That was my red flag. The addict in me found a loophole. But the woman I’ve become in recovery knew to pause. I asked the dental hygienist for a moment so I could call my sponsor. Admittedly I was uncomfortable, but I called my sponsor right there from the dentist chair. I ended up choosing Novocain instead. My sponsor suggested that only I knew what’s right for me in that moment, and I trusted my gut. That dentist’s office became one of my first big sobriety wins.

Just because I’m in recovery doesn’t mean I have to experience pain. But I do ask for guidance, listen to my Higher Power, and make honest decisions about my health. I take my medications as prescribed, and I don’t chase highs. I chase serenity, and I get to trust myself today.
