Today I was pleasantly interrupted by a message from an old friend. She shared that she is on a path of sobriety in her third year of recovery. My emotions have surged today—an unexpected blend of elation, empathy, and a rekindled connection.
I felt immediate elation that she found solace and sought help. I felt sorrow not only from the thought of her past struggles, but from the realization of the battles she may have faced alone for quite some time. And yet, I felt elated to reunite with someone that I not only have a shared history but also a mutual commitment to growth, sobriety, and support.
As my path converges with others now that I’m renewing my presence on social media, it is a poignant reminder of the beauty in these unexpected connections born from my own vulnerability to talk publicly about my story.
