Whiskey, vodka, and rum help us steer through these rough waters to bring you the story of the Wide Awakes, a youth organization and, later, a paramilitary organization cultivated by the Republican Party during the 1860 presidential election in the United States that played a part in forcing Northern politicians, particular Abraham Lincoln, to take a firm stand against slavery.
