First minute
Do you remember how important music was when you were a teenager? I'm not saying we stop liking music as we get older but during our teenage years, didn't it often feel like the soundtrack to our emotions? Music helped us make sense of what we were feeling, sometimes even before we could put it into words.
So for example whenever I hear Mr Blue Sky by ELO even now I feel real joy. It's sunshine in sound.
But most of the music I listened to as a teenager wasn't that cheerful. It was sad and brooding — the kind of stuff that you sat with in a dark room.
Tears for Fears were my go to band when I was feeling blue. The name says it all doesn't it? Their song Mad World had this haunting line:
"The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had."_
Pretty bleak stuff right? But it struck a chord.
