Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson were taking a massive risk with the James Bond franchise. Not only were they entirely reinventing the series by rebooting it, but there were doing this reboot with Daniel Craig at the helm, perhaps the most controversial casting choice in the series' history, and their new blueprint was based in the grittiness of the short Timothy Dalton era of the series.
