"Mom...am I going to die?"
A little boy's curiosity playing with gasoline led to an explosion that propelled him 20 feet across the garage and burned 100% of his body.
With less than a 1% chance of survival, his mother didn't sugarcoat the answer.
Instead, she asked a question.
"Do you want to die?"
"No!"
"Then you must do your part and fight..."
John O'Leary's fight not only led to his survival but also a remarkable life that will soon be the subject of a major motion picture.
Interestingly, the moment that changed him forever wasn't the fire.
It was 20 years later during a church service. One line in the sermon rang through John's soul: "Your life is a priceless, precious gift. Say yes to being used for good."
Two days later, a Girl Scout troop invited him to speak. Then the local Rotary...Kiwanis...a prison...
John kept saying yes.
And continues to do so.
This interview will remind you of the power of hope; the impact of a warrior mother, and the support of friends, and family.
And, perhaps most importantly, that after a fire, life can be beautiful again.
