Our discussion in this podcast is with Pastor Alvin Chun, Pastor of New Song Church in Vienna Va. Alvin is the father of six children, he discusses his background of growing up in New Jersey as a son of Korean American immigrants to the US.
Alvin offers an interesting perspective from a cultural point of view. While his personal experiences were naturally effected by the Korean culture, there were notable differences in that his father was very affectionate to him, which according to Alvin is unusual in a Korean home.
We discuss various experiences both Alvin and I have had in raising our six children (ironically, we both have had six kids) so together that makes a dozen. Much smaller than Dave Maddox’s horde of 16 kids, but, nonetheless challenging. We discuss how our relationship with God affected our approach to raising children.
The mix of kids were for Alvin: 5 boys and one girl; for myself 4 boys and two girls. Each of us shared experiences we have had with raising boys as compared to raising girls and we both agreed there is no formula for doing so; its more of an art form.
We hope and trust you will enjoy us sharing our experiences in raising children in today’s turbulent society.
