Herein I have a discussion with my good friend Dave Henderson, who never ceases to amaze me of his depth of his knowledge; almost entirely self-taught and well read. The discussion starts with identifying that God himself wanted men to mature into fatherhood, in the fullness of becoming Protectors and Providers with the concept that men who have Father’s hearts make the best leaders of their families, communities and governmental leaders.
We point out that there is a correlation between Fathers and Shepherds. The same characteristics that describe a good shepherd (Hear the word Good Shepherd) are the same characteristics that describe a good father. Shepherds protect and provide for their sheep. Same with a father.
It is interesting to note that most of the Biblical leaders in Israel were trained initially in the lowliest of positions: i.e. they were trained as Shepherds. Remember the story of David as a young man. His father did not even recognize him as a son when Samuel the prophet was told by God to anoint one of the sons of Jesse as King. Naturally there are many others.
Further, we begin to discuss philosophically from both Socrates and Plato’s writings the concept of Shepherd Kings as the ideal to be aspired to in governance. How far away from that model do we see our Democratic Republic crumbling under the weight of tyrannical governors and mayors who hypocritically rule their constituency under the guise of protecting them from COVID-19 virus only to lord it over them with lockdowns, masks and social distancing rule that they themselves to not ascribe to.
We hope you will enjoy the discussion. It certainly gives you food for thought.
