"Father Speaks Out on Amish Culture: Hypocrites, Perverts, and Dishonest"
Emmett, a former Amish man, is back again to continue his experiences with the Amish religion and the struggles he is currently facing in the fight for his children who are still a part of the Amish culture. Emmett expresses his excitement to welcome in the new year and his relief to have been able to pick up his kids for Christmas. The conversation then shifted to the details of the Amish way of life and the challenges Emmett currently faces. The speaker and his friend were discussing how the speaker celebrated Christmas with his family and the situations they had to deal with. Last time they spoke, Emmet was talking about when he got married and the conversation moved onto that topic. The speaker explained that when he got married, he did not have money for a honeymoon as all the money he had until he was 21 or married went to his parents. When he was married, he only had around $1800 to buy things for the wedding.
He explained that his wife was a homemaker and that it was their religion’s way to have children as soon as possible. He then started doing construction work to make money and survive. The speaker mentioned that most people are either 21 or married when they start getting their own money. The speaker described a situation where they had to wait two weeks after they turned 21 to give all their money to their dad. The speaker then talked about their ex-wife who had moved to different states before settling in Missouri. The speaker then described a video they sent to the listener where their ex-wife was throwing a temper tantrum in a public place. The speaker then explained that they had made a deal with their ex-wife to get the kids for a couple of months to take them to the beach, Gatlinburg, and Dollywood. Emmet wanted to spend time with their kids, but the ex-wife was not honoring the agreement. she did not let him see his kids after he drove 9 hours each way to see them. His ex-wife's sister said they were never going to let him have the kids, which made him angry. He considered getting a divorce to take it to court, but he wanted to respect the Amish culture. His ex-wife reacted by throwing herself on the ground and scratching and screaming. The kids were present, and they reacted by trying to hug her and make her feel better. The supervisor of the visitation said this was a normal way to get a point across. The speaker does not believe this is normal anywhere, and does not believe it is normal in Amish culture either.
