Join us in discussing this month’s book club pick The House of Last Resort by Christopher Golden. A couple decides to take the plunge and move to Italy to start a new future. Accepting one of the offers we’ve all seen floating around the internet, they buy their house for one euro with the agreement that they stay for five years. Luckily, Tom’s grandparents live in the town. Unlucky is his nona’s response when she visits their new house. It takes a slip of Tommy’s cousin’s tongue to reveal that their house used to be the last resort for lost souls. Those people the catholic church couldn’t save. Maybe that’s why there’s a weird chapel upstairs. Or the creaking on the stairs. Or those voices that creep up Tommy’s back. CJ and Kait have a lively discussion about what they love and hate about the book, whether a slow build of tension works, and showing versus telling.

For our next book, we’ll be reading Schrader’s Chord by Scott Leeds
