On this episode, your hosts welcome their first guest, Brie Birdsell.
Brie is a rural advocate and leader in disability, queer and human rights in Canada and is also the founder of the Deep River Queer Connection, fostering community and allyship for 2sLGBTQIA residents in the town of Deep River, and a founder of the CanDO society, a non-profit focused on making the Canadian outdoors accessible for all.
The Wheel of Oppression aka the wheel of power and privilege is a conceptual tool that helps humans understand how different forms of oppression intersect and perpetuate systemic marginalization. The hub of the wheel represents the systems of power and privilege that perpetuate these forms of oppression. Marginalization occurs when individuals experience oppression in multiple ways due to the intersections of these variables, and each one moves them outwards, away from power.
