Welcome to the first episode of Capital/isms! With this inaugural episode launching on Sept 29th, 2023 - a day before Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
Canada's relationship with Indigenous peoples is a complex and deeply rooted issue with a long history of injustices. It is important to recognize that there is a wide diversity of Indigenous cultures and nations across Canada, each with its own unique history and experiences.
But today we will do our best to explain some of the things we learned as adults about Canada’s relationship with Indigenous people and how we got to where we are today - and really why understanding how we got here actively engaging in reconciliation is so important. We’re not going to talk about what you can do to enact “reconciliation” that’s on you, my friend - but it starts with education.
