When I first heard that Darth Maul would return on Star Wars The Clone Wars (even though he got cut in half in The Phantom Menace), I thought it was a stupid idea. How wrong I was! Because of The Clone Wars and the subsequent series Rebels, Maul is now one of my favorite characters. When he first appeared in 1999, I thought he looked cool and fought well, but that was about it. His storyline in the cartoons is just one example of how the Star Wars supplemental material can expand characters that didn't get the attention they deserved in the films.
