In A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi says that "for over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic". Ever since that line was uttered, fans have been fascinated by the ancient history of the Star Wars galaxy. In the 1990's, Dark Horse released many comics set in this time period, and other media followed suit in the years afterwards.
