Sorry for the audio issues! It's #TeachableTuesday and I'm sharing a bit about Narcissistic Rage. Basically this person is having a meltdown (tantrum). The triggers can range from:
* A feeling that they are losing control
* Someone is saying something they think is offensive or criticizing
* They want attention
* Victim is setting a Boundary and sticking to it
* A victim may be speaking out about his/her experience w/abuser
* Someone may disagree with the abuser about anything
Signs of this are pretty telling but include:
* The silent treatment
* Sarcasm
* Screaming and yelling
* Intense anger
* Physically lashing out or throwing things
* Verbally abusing the victim
* Withholding affection or material items as punishment
What can you do?
- Don't argue with this person it's pointless.
- Don't respond to the anger with anger
- Don't blame yourself
- Try to stay calm
- Assess the situation for your personal safety
- Set Boundaries if you can. Many abusers disregard these
- Practice self-care for yourself the best you can
- Share your situation with a trusted friend/counselor/therapist
- Leave the situation or the person. This may be for a season or this
may have to be longer. It may be that you have to leave a toxic
environment.
- Do what you need to do to keep yourself safe!
Someone out there needs to know they are not alone and that they can survive. Perhaps you are a parent or friend of someone trapped in an abusive relationship and need to know how to help. My goal is to share awareness, offer empowerment, and educate others about emotional traumas and domestic abuse. Here I will share my story and also stories of courage and healing from Survivors, Coaches, to Therapists/Counselors.
