Description

During this interview, we discussed his development through the Sudbury Minor Hockey system and the battles/obstacles he had to face onto eventually becoming the national leading scorer in Midget hockey for the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves of the Great North Midget League (GNML). His play had lead him to being the only Midget level player to be invited to train with former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Gary Roberts in the summer of 2017.

After his conclusion of minor hockey in Sudbury, Jake was recruited to play Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) with the Wellington Dukes after attending multiple OHL camps with the Sudbury Wolves, Soo Greyhounds, and the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL.

Albeit, the adversity Jake has faced didn’t stay back home in Sudbury. Within the first couple weeks with Wellington, Jake had found himself being placed on league waivers and eventually ending up being assigned to the Kitchener Dutchmen of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL).

After spending a season where he found himself in and out of the line-up between multiple GOJHL teams (Kitchener and eventually Elmira), Jake had taken the experiences in stride through having a growth mindset. This mindset had allowed him to perceive each new situation as an opportunity and kept him sane during what many would perceive as a negative year.

After “having a cup of coffee” with the St. Thomas Stars of the GOJHL to begin the 2018-19 season, Jake had made the decision to take control of his career path and had formally requested to released from the team.

Now formally working towards a degree in Sports Administration at Laurentian University, Jake has taken away the many lessons he had learned through playing hockey and applying them to being a great student, consistent learner, and recently being appointed as the video coordinator of the Sudbury Wolves.
