"Gay Crickets" by Effie Lee Newsome
Without a single bit of fuss
A cricket came to live with us.
Without one little word to say
A black-dressed cricket came to stay,
and steal into a basement crack
And watch for spiders, brown and black.
And sometimes eat and sometimes play
A fiddler's tune at end of day.
It keeps up such a jolly sound,
This having crickets hiding round.
It makes the winter nights quite gay
With crickets tucked inside that way.
Hi, I’m Grace, and this is the Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Poems Podcast. It’s a poetry podcast by a kid,
for kids. Are you ready for today’s Pickled Poem?
Email pickledpoemspodcast@gmail.com and let me know what you thought about today's episode. I’d love to hear YOUR favorite poem, too, so make sure to include that in the email and it might show up in a future episode. Make sure your parents have subscribed to this podcast, and ask them
to leave a rating and review so more kids and families can enjoy pickled poems.
Oh, and I should mention that this podcast is sponsored
by the Homeschool Conversations with Humility and Doxology podcast, which is hosted by my Mom. So if you have a parent listening, they should probably check that one out, too.
Now go pick a peck of pickled poems! I’ll see you next
week!
