Welcome to Simple Steps for the Whole You! If you are overwhelmed when thinking about creating habits, this is the podcast for you!
Have you ever wondered why some habits stick and some are so hard to create? Listen to all 3 episodes of this series to understand the science behind successfully creating habits.
Today, we talk about your identity and the powerful role it plays in creating habits! If you identify as a non-smoker, your decision to decline a cigarette is an easy one. If you are a walker, you will walk regularly. If you are someone who makes your lunch every day, you will practice that habit daily.
You will get an opportunity to practice stating your identity based on a habit you are currently doing or working on. Have a journal or notepad ready to write down your habit and identity.
James Clear in Atomic Habits states: “True behavior change is identity change.”
As always, we share God’s truth on the subject. This topic of identity is all over scripture. God tells us we are created in His image and we are His children. Take that loving truth with you into all of your habits.
Psalm 139:13-14 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Come back next week, as we will focus on Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Listen in the next two weeks on powerful interviews on this topic to close out the month of October.
Look for Lisa’s book coming out in the next year about creating habits! There is a whole chapter on the powerful role of identity in creating habits.
