CrissCross will make you jump jump! This 1992 film is about a 12 year old boy coming of age in Key West in 1969, during the tail end of the Vietnam War and the Apollo moon mission. Mumble-mouth Chris (David Arnott) and his mother Tracy (Goldie Hawn) live in a rented room in Eden House, with Chris' father living in Miami as a monk/groundskeeper at a Spanish Monastery. Already a responsible kid with three jobs, Chris will do anything to get them out of their current situation, especially when he finds out about his mom becoming a stripper at the Key Club Lounge (we're really gonna miss Monica's 38's.) While she's bumping and grinding for cash, Chris is unwittingly running cocaine-stuffed fish between a rickety fishing boat and the line cook at the motel.
We also get glimpses of Chris' blossoming relationship with his girlfriend, Termina, and what it used to be like to discover the opposite sex. He's already pretty experienced after hitching a ride from a lady on a Harley who instructs him to hold on tight by putting his hands on her breasts. Chris even attempts to visit his father by tagging along with a truck driver (different times), and his mom's car breaks down on the Old Seven Mile Bridge on the way back. There are some early Stevey B. sightings, and a cameo by Sean William Scott (not really) as an undercover cop who sees no problem bumping a line in a sketchy black van. We're not sure ending up on Stock Island is a happy ending, but we'll let you be the judge.
So grab your early morning cigarette, your cut-off jean shorts and hitch a ride with us to North Miami to recap this borderline Dumpsterpiece. Just don't get robbed by a couple of kids with a golf club and a switchblade. As always, we're breaking this down scene by scene, so if you don't want it to be spoiled, go catch it on your favorite streaming platform and join us for the review.
