Welcome to Municipal Affairs.

Last Month, the capital city of Victoria played host to one of the most important gatherings in the civic calendar: the 2025 Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention. From September 22nd to 26th, the Victoria Conference Centre became the meeting ground for mayors, councillors, senior staff, First Nations representatives, provincial agencies, and partners from across the province.

The UBCM Convention is more than a series of speeches and workshops—it’s where the future of British Columbia’s communities is debated, shaped, and, in many cases, decided. This is where local voices find common cause, and where municipalities large and small come together to chart their course forward.

One of the highlights was meeting with members of the provincial government, both the government opposition. We chatted with Minsiter of State of Local Government and Rural Communities Brittny Anderson after her speech at the UBCM Convention.

We also caught up with Tony Luck, the Conservative Party of British Columbia Critic for Municipal Affairs and Local Goverment about what he heard at the convention and how he plans to address the concerns hes heard during the upcoming fall session of the legislature.
