Today’s were heading south to the City of Brotherly Love, The City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where Canadian municipal leaders were continuing important work to build international bridges.

Earlier this month, two representatives from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities—Neal Comeau, Chair of FCM’s Rural Forum, and Alysson Storey, Councillor from Chatham-Kent, Ontario and FCM Board Director—travelled to Philadelphia to attend the National Association of Counties' Annual Conference.

It’s all part of FCM’s commitment to strengthening cross-border collaboration with their American counterparts.

From rural development to environmental stewardship, the goal is simple: share insights, align on challenges, and learn from one another. But also build relationships that address the ongoing trade disputes between the Trump Administration and Canada.

Chair Neal Comeau spoke to us after his attendance at the National Association of Counties' Annual Conference about his conversations with municipal leaders from across the U.S., and what resonated most on the ground in Philadelphia. And with his attendance coinciding with an increase in Tariffs on Canadian Goods, we got his reaction from the delegates about what the ongoing trade challenges mean for building those Cross Border relations.

During the conference, Councillor Storey took part in key discussions about water protection, highlighting the critical work FCM does to safeguard the Great Lakes and Canada’s broader water systems. It’s a clear reminder that while borders may define our nations, our environmental challenges—and opportunities—are shared.

we sat with Councillor Storey to hear her reflections on the conference, and the big takeaway, and what hope she has that the cooperation between FCM and the National Association of Counties' can achieve under uncertainty with the Trump Administration.
