Biography:
Crystal Hall has been a faculty member at the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Policy and Governance since 2008. Her research explores ways of incorporating insights from behavioral science into policy design and implementation, with a focus on operationalizing equity. She has a record of serving government agencies at the local, state, and federal level – including having served as a Fellow on the White House Social and Behavioral Sciences Team and the Federal Office of Evaluation Sciences at the General Services Administration.
In addition to her scholarly work, she has provided guidance and training to community organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies seeking to implement tools from psychology and behavioral economics into the design and delivery of their programs and services. She holds a PhD and MA in Psychology from Princeton University. In addition, she holds a BS from Carnegie Mellon University in both Decision Science and Policy and Management.
She completed her 300 hour yoga teaching certification in 2014, studying the Ghosh lineage at Breathe Hot Yoga in Seattle. Her personal practice and teaching style reflect an emphasis on the physical aspects of yoga as tools for meditation, healing, and the pursuit of self-discipline. She lives in the Madrona area with her husband and three children, and loves doing anything that gets her away from a desk and into the great outdoors.
Career Advice:
Build a network of people that you trust! People directly in your work context, and especially those more broadly. A mix of other POC (along with authentic white allies) will serve as an important resource at every career stage.
