Description

In this episode of Ampthill Past Memories, Mariella Cook interviews Simon Wilson, son of the late John and Margaret Wilson, about their lasting impact on the Ampthill community.

John and Margaret were dedicated public servants, each serving as town councillors and mayors, and actively supporting numerous charities, including Save the Children and the RNLI. Music was a cornerstone of Margaret’s life, and she was a proud member of the St Andrew’s Church choir.

Simon shares heartfelt memories of his parents' contributions, from their leadership at the Feoffee Almshouses to their role in twinning Ampthill with a town in France. He reflects on their strong partnership, sense of humour, and commitment to civic duty. The episode includes a moving reading of The Dash by Linda Ellis, capturing Margaret’s philosophy of living a meaningful life.

Margaret passed away in March 2024, remaining dedicated to her responsibilities until the very end. This episode honours her legacy and the profound impact of the Wilson family on Ampthill.
