Description

In this upcoming episode, I sit down with Rhys Ross, Senior HIV Peer Educator for WAAC (pronounced whack), to have a raw and eye-opening conversation about his journey with HIV and meth addiction.

Rhys doesn’t hold back as he talks about what it’s really like to live with HIV, the intense stigma he’s faced (not just from society but also from within himself) and the overwhelming shame that came with his diagnosis. We dig into the misconceptions and outdated beliefs that are still so common, even in the healthcare system, and why education around HIV is something we desperately need more of.

Rhys also opens up about his struggles with meth addiction, which added another layer of shame and isolation to an already heavy load. He shares the turning points in his journey, and how he came to find the strength to rebuild his life. His story is one of self-acceptance, and now, as a passionate advocate and educator, he’s helping others navigate their own challenges while breaking down stigma one conversation at a time.

This chat is as inspiring as it is challenging. It’s not always comfortable, but it’s a conversation we all need to have. Rhys’s honesty, vulnerability, and determination to make a difference will leave you thinking long after the episode ends.

Whether you’re looking to better understand HIV, addiction, or how we can support each other in breaking free from shame and judgment, this episode is for you!
