Ever felt like your body holds stories you can’t quite put into words?
Movement might be the key.In this episode, I sit down with Molly W. Schenck (MFA, MEd, RSME/T) — artist, educator, somatic practitioner, and author — to explore how creativity and trauma collide and how movement can unlock the emotions we have been holding inside.
From her early work in higher education and the fitness industry to founding Grey Box Collective, Molly shares how she developed Trauma Informed Creative Practices to help people heal, connect, and reclaim expression in their own bodies.
We dive into the ways trauma shows up in the body, what interrupts our movement, and how somatic practices can shift not only personal healing but also classrooms, creative spaces, and communities.
We also unpack how art can make the “too hard to talk about” topics a little easier to face.
What we cover:
✨ About Molly W. Schenck
Molly is fascinated with human movement and what interrupts its full expression. She is the author of Trauma-Informed Teaching Practices for Dance Educators and has presented workshops and trainings for individuals, organisations, and arts leaders locally, nationally, and internationally.
In 2016, she founded Grey Box Collective — an arts organisation that makes weird art about tough stuff — and currently serves as the director and creative producer.
In 2022, she launched the Simply Soma Method, working with clients 1:1 to use movement as a catalyst for overall mental and physical wellbeing.
