Description

During Lent, Christians consider the powers that have influence in our lives - God's power, earthly powers, and the power of sin and death. And in the end, we declare God's power, revealed through Christ's resurrection, supreme. So it makes sense why we cast Jesus as a king and talk about God's vision for the world as a kingdom - relying on these ideas to communicate the immediate and eternal power of God. However, the history of "king/kingdom" language in the Church is complex and invites a closer look to understand what we really mean and how the power of God is best expressed through the limitations of human language.
