Released in 2001 and directed by Garry Marshall, based on the book by Meg Cabot - this movie follows Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathway, as a shy teenager who discovers she is descendant from royalty when her grandmother, played by Julie Andrews, comes to ask Mia if she wants to take on her role as princess.
