Important note: I didn't have time to address an important point in this week's sermon. I want to be very clear on this particular point - that while the symptoms of acedia can sound a lot like depression, & acedia often feeds on depression and anxiety, they ARE NOT the same thing.
Please DO NOT hear my words today as suggesting depression or anxiety are just "bad thoughts" or sin. Acedia is a decision we make to stop caring, to shut others away. Depression and anxiety are complex mental disorders that require proper treatment.
If you are experiencing depressive thoughts or anxiety, and don't know who to talk to, simply dial 211 for help finding qualified people to treat you. It may take counseling, or therapy, or medication. Those are all healthy ways we can experience healing.
And always know that you are loved, you are important, and that you are not alone!
