I had the pleasure of chatting with Karissa Schneider and Jenna Marcoe, Leadership Team Members of Back to School Fond du Lac. This incredible program began in 1995, initially serving about 100 students. Ascension Lutheran, First Presbyterian, and The Salvation Army of Fond Du Lac collaborated to develop the program, which quickly expanded as more churches joined in. By 2007, nearly 800 students were being helped.
From 2008 to 2011, the Salvation Army took over full control, and by 2011, they were serving 300-400 students. In 2012, the program was reorganized, and with community support, it grew rapidly. By 2014-2016, Back to School FDL served over 1200 students annually.
Distribution Day is August 17th, 2024, and registration runs from July 9th to August 7th, 2024.
