Description

“I'm a big advocate for intense personal responsibility. You only you can save you. And listen to my life, if I was waiting around for someone else to save me, I'll tell you right now, I wouldn't be sitting in front of you.

I live a very different life and I see a lot of learned helplessness in clients and in the public these days. A lot of, “Oh, there's nothing I can do. I just feel like this…” That slapping on of a label I think sometimes can be I think in people's best interests. Because yes, there's a place and I understand it, but I also think potentially it's part of how we've allowed people to stop taking responsibility. They just go, “Oh well I'm depressed or I'm anxious, or I have ADHD” and they just give up…

They're just given the pills and sent on their way and not given any opportunity to take personal responsibility. That's such a failure of our medical system and that's why I do podcasts and I do posts and all that sort of thing is so people start understanding that there is always something you can do. Maybe it's not a hundred percent of the way and depending on what's going on, obviously like what my mum has going on, and I have a lot of empathy now that I didn't as a child. What is going on in her brain is quite intense in comparison to some things. But there's always something. There was something she could do cause she's better now than she was. But it was learning to take as much personal responsibility as you can is a massive thing that I'm an advocate for.
