"You've got one life. Born, bred, raised up in Melbourne. It's like, man, how boring would it be just to just stay in Melbourne your whole life? It's like you could live in any country you want for a a year, two years, five... How many years you've got on this planet? And so I definitely want to live in Thailand. And obviously I was saying before, I was planning to sort of go over there and maybe not come back and just see what happened. And that was so exciting for me and I never really did that.
So that's still a part of me. I think one of the things that's kept me so sort of happy and content with my current situation with my wife, who I love and obviously have kids with, but just the fact that like I fell in love with Thailand as a culture and the language, the culture as a whole and just the fact that she's Thai and I just, I just got this sense of the connection and just the possibility that we will one day live there or that we could live there if we wanted to. We could, if some shit happened here and we had to, we could go live over there. Just that idea keeps me excited."
Episode #36 with Joel Octigan
Joel was one of my high school teachers in year 11 and 12.
He was quite young - in his first few years of teaching at the time - but was someone who I perceived to have life fully together...
We discuss this theory, his love for Muay Thai, how his teaching has evolved over the years, his love for Thailand and challenges he's faced over the years...
I loved this conversation and I hope you do too!
Thanks again to Joel.
Much love,
Rien!
