"Life doesn't come easy for anyone... A lot of kids probably have the view that life's a walk in the park. Growing up, things would just be easy... You'll go to school and then you'll go have a job and you'll make money and have a house and whatever... But I suppose I always thought there are going to be obstacles. And that's probably the attitude I've had with everything, is that there are going to be obstacles, but they can be overcome."
Episode #37 of The Hope Initiative with Mia Henry-Jerrett
In todays episode I speak with my cousin, Mia!
Mia is one of the smartest and levelled headed young ladies I know of. At the age of 20 she has just completed her 2nd year of Biomed studies at Universities, and is nonplussed at the prospect of 7 more years of study to go.
At the age of 4 she was diagnosed with leukaemia - a type of cancer that attacks bone marrow within ones body. 2.5 years of chemo following she fought through and is now enjoying her life has a young woman; the world at her finger tips.
Some of what we discuss is if she's ever felt like she has had a 'second chance' after overcoming cancer; when she felt like she became an adult and advice she'd give to her 40 year old self.
I truly appreciate this conversation and Mia for sharing her life with me, and allowing to with you.
I hope you enjoy.
Thanks,
Rien
