Description

Lance Werner is Executive Director at the Kent District Library in Kent County, Michigan, and a widely recognized leader in his field. His background is in law and library science and he has served as president of the Michigan Library Association (MLA) and chair of the MLA Legislative Committee. He also serves as an advisory board member for Wayne State University's School of Information Sciences. Lance also holds a Distinguished Alumni Award from Wayne State.

More recently, he's gained recognition from the American Library Association as winner of the ALA's Ernest A. DiMattia Jr. Award for Innovation and Services to Community and Profession. He's also received the Urban Libraries Council's Joey Rodger Leadership Award and was named Librarian of the Year by the Michigan Library Association. In 2018, he earned the title of Librarian of the Year from Library Journal, becoming the first and only Michigan librarian to receive that recognition.
