In this episode, I speak with Vicki about how she navigated the death of her husband, Sam, to cancer in 2019. While navigating her profound grief, she was astonished when the tragic event unexpectedly opened up a world of possibilities, filling her with gratitude and optimism. Sheer inspiration motivated her to write To Sam, With Love in the hope others might benefit from her experience.
When she felt flooded with optimism and saw opportunities after his death, she questioned why she didn't feel worse than she did. Although he was sick for 2 years, he was especially sick the last 6 months of his life. She was there, by his side, helping to take care of him and feels this may have done something to assuage her guilt for not feeling as she and others expected her to.
She grew up without a belief in God so the synchronicities she experienced after his departure left her without doubt that something else was at play. This gave her comfort knowing her beloved Sam was still around her.
She hopes her book helps other navigate the grief they feel when a loved one dies and lets them know it's okay to continue living and loving life.
