This week on News at Nine was joined by Emily Schoonmaker from the UNH Honors Program. Emily is a UNH Honors Program advisor and the director of the UNH Hamel Scholars Program.
Today, it seems common to be expected to have your career path planned out before you even leave high school. Ostensibly, it is frowned upon to want to jump from job to job (or even industry to industry) in your career. However, this practice is far more common than one might think.
Emily has had anything but a linear career path. Since graduating from Dartmouth College with a BA in Theater, Music, and Education, she has worked as a personal chef, earned a law degree from the University of Oregon's School of Law, practiced law with the aforementioned degree, and found her way here to UNH. There are many more pieces to this career puzzle (including her time as a singer/songwriter in her college band) that Emily will explore during our interview. Listen in for a great life story, a discussion of transferable skills, and reassurance that a non-linear path is nothing to be afraid of.
