As a follower of Jesus, what does it mean to be a good citizen of the United States of America? The question, “What does it mean to be a good citizen of the Roman Empire?” was on the minds of the followers of Jesus living under the heavy hand of Nero and scattered throughout the Roman provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia almost 2000 years ago. How do all of us, who are followers of Jesus, take seriously Peter’s instruction to submit ourselves to those who rule over us? That’s a powerful question, a very important question.
