Garner currently holds the position of PE teacher and assistant athletic director at Benton. Prior to this role, he spent nine successful seasons as the boys basketball coach at his alma mater Sesser-Valier. His coaching tenure secured four regional and two sectional championships, along with a fourth-place finish at the state level in 2014. Garner's dedication extends beyond the court; he is invested in training athletes to excel across all levels, from middle and high school to college and adulthood, through his performance training program, Deadbird Performance. Additionally, Garner’s background include being a baseball player at Rend Lake College and Southern Illinois University. As well as being on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes board in Southern Illinois.
