In Episode 30 of “Coaches at Crown Brew Getting Coffee,” presented by the Swinford Media Group and Adrenaline Fundraising, our host, legendary Marion High School football coach Kerry Martin, sits down with Matt Brown, a former Marion Wildcat quarterback and is considered to be one of the greatest players in school history. Matt started at quarterback for Marion from 2005 to 2007 under Coach Martin, and during his time there, he set nearly every quarterback record for completions, touchdowns, wins, and yards. After high school, Matt went on to have an impressive career at Illinois State University, where he was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame. He finished his college career as the Missouri Valley Football Conference all-time leader in five different passing categories, including passing yards, touchdowns, and completions. In 2012, he was named the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year and earned spots on All-Conference teams in his time there. Matt is the only quarterback in Illinois State history to throw for over 2,000 yards in four consecutive seasons, and he holds multiple school records, including pass attempts (1,455), completions (927), passing yards (10,591), passing touchdowns (78), and total offense yards (10,952). After college, he had a stint in the NFL, signing with the Green Bay Packers for training camp and also trying out for the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. He later shifted to coaching and is now an assistant coach on the Marion High School staff. Don’t miss this insightful conversation with Matt Brown as he reflects on his career!
