Do you have that “thing” that everyone just knows you’re meant to do? That thing that you would do even if it wasn’t your job? Even if nobody paid you?

Well, this week’s guest certainly knows what that thing is for her. From giving buzz cuts to her Barbies as a child, to cutting hair for her cousins and family through her teens, she was skilled at hairstyling long before it was her profession.

Lucinda Butland is the owner of Hairy Ideas in Moncton. She is a hairstylist, a specialist in Afro-textured hair, an entrepreneur and my dear friend.

We talk about Lucinda’s work, her business and a little bit of life sprinkled in for good measure.

I’ve been sitting in Lucinda’s chair for over a decade myself, and we got into how the right hairstylist stays in your life for the long-term. She is proud to have many clients who have stayed even longer than I have (she’s been doing this for 32 years) and takes her hairstylist/client privilege very seriously.

As a specialist in Afro-textured hair, Lucinda has seen a lot of growth in Moncton’s black community over the past few years in increased demand for her services.

I asked Lucinda what local purchase has recently made her life better and she shared the life changing authentic Mexican food (namely the Tacos Dorados) at Gaxiola Mexican Restaurant. We can’t wait to try it ourselves!
