In today’s wrap party episode, our hosts, Thaddeus, Andrew, Matt, and Rhen, share their thoughts on this season of Holy Donors about Pierre Toussaint. They all agree that, despite knowing almost nothing about the Venerable Pierre Toussaint prior to their research for this season, they are so glad they chose Pierre as one of their holy donors.
Thaddeus shares the challenges he faced in leading this season. Not only was this the furthest back in history our hosts have gone back to find a Holy Donor (e.g. less available documentation to review), but Thaddeus tried to be mindful about how to present difficult, accurate information about the history of slavery and the Catholic church’s stance on slavery. (Thank you, Thaddeus, for accepting this challenge!)
While they joke about the sheer amount of money that women in Pierre’s day spent on their hair, our hosts also agree that this season is more subdued and heavy than some of the other seasons of Holy Donors. That said, thank you for joining us to hear our hosts’ lessons learned during their studies of Pierre’s life and legacy, and we hope you, too, will be inspired by Pierre’s faithful, joyful generosity.
