Welcome to the third episode of For the Love of Fiction.
Gavin and Marc have a catchup in the introduction and talk about what they’ve been up to in the past couple of weeks and then in the second section, Marc discusses the Twisted Metal video game franchise, the television series and reminiscences with Gavin about playing the games on ps1 in the 90s.
In the second segment, Gavin attempts something of an audio essay, the throughline being that of what he labels ‘Zone Fiction’ where he draws together discussions on Lovecraft’s Weird Fiction, the novel The Roadside Picnic (1972), Andrei Tarkovsky’s movie Stalker (1979), the television miniseries Chernobyl (2019), the video games series S.T.A.L.K.E.R (2007) by GSC Game World, and the novel Annihilation (2014) by Jeff Vandermeer and its movie adaption (2018) by Alex Garland.
Spoilers and bad language throughout.
