Today I speak to Dr Uthish Sreedaran MUDR (MD), MCRCPsych, PG Cert Colin Ed, who is a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist currently working in the NHS (National Health Service in the UK), and completes tele-medicine assessments, treatment and management through his role as Deputy Lead for over 200 doctors for an online psychiatric platform called Psych-UK.

Dr Sreedaran has worked in adult inpatient and outpatient settings, learning disability psychiatry, CAMHS and forensic settings and has experience and expertise in the diagnosis and management of Adult ADHD, Adult Autism, Psychotic disorders and Mood disorders.

We discuss that late diagnosis of ADHD can be identified, can be managed, and that there are multiple strengths and weaknesses.

I thought it to be important for the variety of listeners of this podcast to understand certain terms, whether you are a mother/father with kids with ADHD, an adult going through an ADHD diagnosis or  even a medical doctor wanting to find out more about ADHD.

• Section 12 Approved Doctor - (Mental Act. UK).Specialist expertise to Assess and diagnose mental disorders to make recommendations if people are at risk to themselves, or others. That they may need hospital admission. These assessments could be completed in police cells or A+E (Accident and Emergency - Hospital) or peoples homes and whether the mental illness can be support at home with their loved ones or rather in a hospital.
• Steps Facilitator -  Structured type of therapy for people with an emotional unstable personality disorder (was called in the past, border-line personality disorder) from trauma and how they see and act in the world can be distorted. The therapy is to contain the emotional regulation, find helpful ways to manage, when they are in distress and to turn people from more negative ways to more positive ways in their lives.
