Ida Nilsson is a professional trail and ultra runner from Sweden, fresh off of her third top 10 placement at the Western States 100. At 44 years old, she pushed the front of the women's race for 80 miles before ultimately finishing 4th overall and the only master's athlete in the top 10.
In this episode, Lauren and Ida discuss her long history of elite competition in this sport, from track and cross country as a child and collegiate athlete, to discovering trail and ultra running in her 30s; cultivating success by learning from others and taking her time to grow through experience.
Of course, we spend a good bit of time talking about her experience at this year's Western States, post-race feelings and recovery, and where her path may lead next.
